Which of the following statements about irregular galaxies is false?

a. They are found in greater numbers in the distant past.

b. They probably merged, as collisions were more common in the distant past, to form larger galaxies.

c. When they are seen nearby, they seem to be the result of collisions (train wrecks!)

d. They appear to be early stages of galaxy evolution

e. All galaxies, due to titanic collisions will become disrupted irregular galaxies.Which of the following statements about irregular galaxies is false?
E is the only one that makes no sense whatsoever. All the others are true.

Titanic collisions between galaxies usually produce elliptical galaxies, but smaller galaxies could produce spirals, as well as irregulars. So, the word ';all'; in the statement makes it false.

A is true. They were more numerous in the past, that's an observed fact.

C is true because that's what happened to M82, and the Magellanic Clouds.

B is true because irregular galaxies were larger and more numerous in the past. The ratio of spiral and elliptical to irregular galaxies 8-10 billion ly away (8-10 billion years ago) was lower.

D is true based on the same observations as in A.

I hate it when a cat can come up with the right answer first!Which of the following statements about irregular galaxies is false?
This answer is correct! Thank you for your help!

I think you and Dion should get together - you're both posting the same homework so you could save each other some time.

Irregular galaxies are thought to have been elliptical or spiral galaxies that were disrupted or deformed by gravitational interactions.

So they couldn't be an early stage of galaxy evolution (cross off d).

And they couldn't be more common in the past (so cross of a).

Not all galaxies are near others, so not all will collide with others (cross off e).

That leaves b and c - you can figure out which.
A..

That's all I have to say bout that.
is this a democracy?

I vote E.
f. None of the above
