Should auditors be jailed for giving false statements?

I believe auditors are liable for a custodial penalty for making false statements, depending on the seriousness of the offence, and probably on whether it's a repeat offence.

That's speaking from NSW, Australia.

Should they be jailed?

Maybe not for a first offence ~ probably some form of community service would be more useful, but if they are a repeat offender, and particularly if what they have done has caused hardship to people, then I would give a qualified yes.

Qualified because it would really depend on the individual case and the circumstances.

Most of the time, prison is the LEAST useful of solutions, but there comes a point past which nothing else can be done.

Cheers :-)Should auditors be jailed for giving false statements?
